Four Filters in Your German Car

Do you know about the filters in your German car? They work to keep your car running in the best possible condition. Jim’s German Auto has some information you can use to understand more about these filters and what they do.

Air Filter

Your German car’s engine has to have air in order to run, but you want to make sure that there’s nothing else getting into the engine that shouldn’t be there. There’s a lot of stuff floating around that can get sucked into the air intake and you definitely don’t want things like leaves and bugs in the engine at all. The air filter is what stops all that from getting where it shouldn’t be.

Cabin Air Filter

The air you breathe is important, too. That’s why there’s a second air filter just for the passenger cabin. That filter removes as much debris as possible from the air slated to enter the passenger compartment. Most manufacturers recommend swapping the cabin air filter once a year, but there may be times you need to change them out sooner. If the interior of the car smells of mildew, it’s definitely important to change the cabin air filter.

Fuel Filter

Fuel isn’t as clean as you might hope it would be. There are small bits of sediment in even the cleanest fuel and the cleanest fuel tanks. Plus, dirt and debris may make their way into the tank. Keeping even the tiniest bits of sediment out of the engine is crucial to prevent engine damage. Your German car’s fuel filter needs to be replaced on a regular schedule outlined in your car’s owner’s manual.

Oil Filter

Your German car needs an oil filter to keep the oil circulating throughout the engine as free of dirt and debris as possible. Engine oil has a tough job, and the oil filter works just as hard to keep your car running as perfectly as possible. Every time that you get an oil change, your oil filter also gets changed. That’s vital in order to keep the engine clean and lubricated.
